White Paper #2:

CORD Physical Infrastructure Deployments:

Designs, Considerations, and Best Practices

As more bandwidth-heavy and low latency-dependent technologies become commonplace, CORD deployments need to be equipped to provide the necessary space and services required to handle these technologies in an efficient and effective manner. CORD was introduced by the Open Network Foundation (ONF) in 2017 with a mission of providing Telco Operators a foundation of understanding and supporting emerging technologies in the Central Office network. To aid in the education of CORD, Prysmian Group and Panduit have developed a three-part White Paper series to introduce and support CORD deployments.

This paper is the second of a three-paper series on CORD deployments. It addresses the challenges that Telco Operators will need to consider as they transition from a Traditional CO (Central Office) to a Re-architected CO. Topics include the following transitions: from single-use to a multitenant space, from Telco equipment and cabling to Enterprise style equipment and LAN cabling, and from CO to considerably more conditioned data center space. In addition, we discuss the challenges with connectivity and standards that can occur.

Survey on Research Results on Durability of Carbon Black PV Wire

While the solar industry is young, long-standing research on polyethylene wire aging performance from the telecom industry confirms the durability of carbon-black filled cross-linked polyethylene PV wire in excess of 40-years in an outdoor environment.
